Music Monday #6 - Takin' It Back To The Old School

Happy Monday!

I love weeks that start with a weekend extension... I have the day off today because I'm running the Tufts 10K for Women road race in Boston! It's a great route through Boston and Cambridge in which thousands of women run and thousands more spectators cheer us on.  They also give out the best long-sleeved t-shirts of any race I run :)  It will be my 4th time running it with one of my BFF's and I'm excited to have a few other friends joining us this year.

Me + friends showing our colors at the 2010 Tufts 10K

I don't typically run road races with my iPod; however, if I WAS going to listen to music, the following playlist would no doubt pump me up.

This week's music inspiration came while cleaning my house on Saturday... a few '90's hip hop songs came on while I was listening to Pandora and basically turned my boring household chores into So You Think You Can Dance.  Good times.

Early/mid 1990's hip hop is one of my favorite genres of music so I decided to devote a playlist to it.  It definitely brings me back to high school!  Last week's cowbell playlist was a bit heavy on the old school music as well but hey... good, classic songs never really get "old" :)

MM#6 - "Back in The Day"
(completely forgot to total the time on this one)
  1. Nice & Smooth - Sometimes I Rhyme Slow
  2. Salt-n-Pepa - Shoop
  3. Lords of the Underground - Chief Rocka
  4. Beastie Boys - Jimmy James *From one of the best albums of the '90's
  5. Run DMC - Down With The King
  6. Chubb Rock - Treat Me Right
  7. TLC - Ain't Too Proud To Beg
  8. De La Soul - A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays"
  9. DJ Kool - Let Me Clear My Throat (Old School Reunion Remix '96)
  10. Ice Cube - Bop Gun (One Nation)
  11. Public Enemy - Can't Do Nuttin For You, Man!
  12. Black Sheep - The Choice is Yours
  13. Cutty Ranks - A Who Seh Me Dun
  14. Monie Love - Its a Shame (My Sister)
  15. Ahmad - Back In The Day *Cool it down now...
  16. A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation *Another one of the best albums of the 90's

For a fun workout (or a nice clean house), I highly recommend listening to any of these gems.  I know there are a ton of good ones missing from this though... what's your favorite early-mid '90's hip hop song??

Sophomore year of H.S... back in the day... rockin' the bang poof way before Snooki ha.
Hey, at least I had good taste in music :)

    1. Haha thanks Angie! These songs are definitely a fun throwback! I may have to make a part 2 at some point for all the ones that didn't make the cut! :)
