Sailing, Sunrises and Sweatin' Pink

It's a sweet, sweet life... livin' by the salty sea...

I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life and spent my childhood (and, so far, most of my adulthood) going to Cape Cod in the summertime.  However, up until this summer I had never been to two of the Cape islands - Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.

I'm excited to say that streak has ended...  Not only did I kick off summer by sailing in the Figawi Race to Nantucket over Memorial Day weekend (which the boat I was on won!) but I just (unofficially) ended the summer with a sailing weekend to Martha's Vineyard for Labor Day weekend.  One of my 20(in)12 goals was to go sailing... check and check!

I sailed on the same boat that I was on for the Figawi Race; however I quickly realized that pleasure cruising is VERY different from racing... Much less hectic!

The trip was nothing short of amazing (well, minus the short bit of time I spent being seasick... only amazing part of that was not losing it overboard).  There's something about being at sea that just makes you forget about anything stressful going on in your life... It's virtually impossible to be unhappy on a sailboat.  I firmly believe that the ocean has healing properties and have been known to take a stroll down to my neighborhood beach to breathe in some salty air when needed.

Since the sea and island scenery were both so picturesque, I'll let some of my pics help me recap the weekend (although tough to choose... I took over 200!).

Very 1st picture I took, as we were pulling into at Woods Hole, Falmouth on Friday to anchor for the             night (and the 1st of MANY sunset/sunrise pics... most of which I'll spare you).  I think sailboats and the sun on the horizon are my new favorite things to take pictures of:

And just so the moon didn't feel left out, took a couple of it while we started to grill...

We headed off to MV bright and early Saturday morning.

Not to brag but... I raised this :)  Seriously though, talk about an arm workout!

Trying my hand at steering

Once we got to MV, we were able to get a sweet inner harbor mooring Vineyard Haven, right where the ferry ships come in and with pretty views of the harbor.

Here are some of our neighbors at Vineyard Haven Harbor...

Annnd... our neighbor on the other side of us...
yes, that's a helicopter

We had the requisite breakfast at The Black Dog...

Yes, strawberry, blueberry, white chocolate chip pancakes are requisite.
Sitting with the house Black Dog at The Black Dog! (and rockin' the HLS gear!)

Then we took a little day trip over to Oak Bluffs...
Vineyard Vines
Oak Bluffs is a town in MV known for a section of cute"gingerbread-style" cottages that started as a summer campground site. These house are cherished historic landmarks (many built in the 19th century) and very expensive real estate.

One of the cottages, "La Vie en Rose"
MV has so many pretty flowers everywhere..

After Oak Bluffs, we came back to the boat, grilled dinner and went window-shopping in Vineyard Haven before crashing hard. For some reason though, I woke up bright and early at 5:20am, so I decided to head out on the bow of the boat and document the sunrise...

This is what 5:20am looks like

Even the boats look like they're watching the sunrise
Getting all artsy with the ferry against the sky
Ta-da!! Gorgeous!
Sunrise documentary complete.  Time for morning coffee on deck
Getting artsy again with the rowers

We finished up the weekend with breakfast again at The Black Dog (we could see it from where our boat was, which made it a no-brainer) and left around noon for home.  One of the best weekends of the summer!!

This week is off to a pretty cool start as well because I came home from work yesterday to discover....

I am a new Sweat Pink Ambassador!  Yayy!!

Sweat Pink is a movement of like-minded individuals who share a passion for living a healthy lifestyle and want to inspire others towards a lifetime of health.  From their website, they believe that "strong is the new skinny, pink is the new black, and that a positive attitude and whole foods are a healthier route to happiness than self-loathing and 100-calorie snack packs."  I couldn't agree more :)  You'll be seeing more about Sweat Pink from me in future posts!

And finally, I've decided to challenge myself to a September blog, uh, challenge... Inspired by Fitness Cheerleader, I am making it my goal to blog everyday through the end of September on various topics.  I'm not an everyday blogger so this should be interesting!

What would you like to read about from a fitness perspective?  Feel free to comment on any topic suggestions!   Thanks for reading!
