What is Fitness MoeJo, you ask? It's my new blog where I'll be sharing stories, personal experiences and tidbits of information on maintaining a healthy, fit lifestyle... because fitness isn't something you start and stop repeatedly over time, it's a way of life!

"Mojo" has a few different meanings but I found a great operational definition of it from the article, Are You Full of Mojo or Nojo?: "That positive spirit toward what we are doing now that starts on the inside and radiates to the outside"This definition resonates with me because a few years ago, I went through a very difficult time in my life.  I became a depressed shell of myself and each day sort of blurred into the next. I wasn't exactly filled with much positive spirit.

It probably took a good two years to climb out of the hole I was in. At that point, although my outlook on life was finally changing for the better, I realized I didn't have a good answer when people would ask, "what's new?" or "what are you up to?"...  I literally had nothing to talk about because I wasn't up to anything!  I knew I needed to change that and find my "MoeJo" again...

I had always been into fitness, so I decided that every January, I would pick a fitness goal to work towards, achieve and cross off my newly created Bucket List...

in 2010, I ran the Boston Marathon (my first marathon!)

in 2011, I trained for and entered my first bikini competition (placed in the top ten!)
For 2012, I came up with my 20(in)12 Plan = 20 goals in 12 months... Most are fitness-related with a mix of personal and professional... some that require a bit of preparation, some that simply involve gathering up the guts to do it... but all within my reach before the end of 2012!

Now, I'm by no means what you would call a thrill-seeker or adrenaline-junkie but I like to do things that take me out of my comfort zone...

Here's my 20(in)12 list, in no particular order... OK, so there's actually 26 but I couldn't narrow it down:
  1. Indoor rock climbing
  2. Go snowboarding and perfect the art of not falling while exiting the chair lift
  3. Take a hip-hop dance class
  4. Compete in the OCB Spirit of America Bikini Competition
  5. Go zip-lining
  6. Perform 10 bodyweight chin-ups
  7. Become affiliated with professional organizations that will increase my networking capabilities
  8. Go on a destination bike ride
  9. Take a flying trapeze class
  10. Hike a mountain
  11. Go sailing
  12. Compete in an obstacle/adventure course race
  13. Master a handstand pushup
  14. Go mountain biking
  15. Obtain a new certification related to fitness
  16. Beat my 5K race pace (7:41... very ambitious for me!)
  17. Go skydiving
  18. Maintain my competition physique (or not stray too far) for a fun, professional, fitness photo shoot
  19. Deadlift 2x's my bodyweight
  20. Squat 1x my bodyweight
  21. Plan a NYE skiing/snowboarding weekend trip (I think it would be so much fun to get a group of friends together and spend NYE on the slopes!)
  22. Go kayaking
  23. Get my right split back
  24. Participate in a sprint triathlon (Sprint II - Hyannis??)
  25. Use my passport (obtained in 2009 and still stamp-free!)
  26. Start my blog :)
A few have already been accomplished (yay me!) and so far, I'm most proud of the 10 bw chin-ups... you would have thought I won the lottery that day!  (Although not falling while exiting the chair lift - 6 times in a row!! - is definitely a close second.)

What's YOUR goal for 2012??
